Frequently Asked Questions

What is the $1000 a month rule for retirement?

The “$1,000 a month rule” is a retirement income shortcut suggesting that for every $1,000 in desired monthly retirement income, a retiree may need roughly $240,000 saved, based on a 5% annual withdrawal assumption. It is only a rough estimate. Actual retirement readiness should account for taxes, healthcare, inflation, investment risk, Social Security, pensions, and spending flexibility.
